Noah’s Park & Playgrounds Bringing New Fully ADA Accessible Playground Structure and Equipment to the Historic Centennial Park

Duncan, OK, April 21, 2015 --(PR.com)-- On April 27th, 2015 Noah’s Park & Playgrounds, Inc. will start the installation of a brand new playground structure and equipment designed for all inclusive play, for the historic Centennial Park at the Simmons Center in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Since June 2014, Noah’s Park and Playgrounds has been working with the Simmons Center‘s Executive Director, Rex Outhier, to help bring new and improved playground equipment to the well-known, and loved, Centennial Park in Duncan, Oklahoma. The playground will include equipment for all children, with wheelchair access to the structure and the swings.

In October 1993, over 1,700 volunteers worked countless hours to design and build the unique Centennial Park project next to the Simmons Center, Duncan’s community center. The park was enjoyed and admired by all Duncan residence, young and old. Outhier commented, “the park was an important park because of the amount of use it got, as well as the circumstances in which the park became in existence. Centennial Park was built as a project by the community to build a park in which all kids can play, including handicapped children.”

Almost 22 years later, the wooden playground equipment started to splinter, swings started to break, and the structure simply wasn’t safe for Duncan residents. Chuck Siess, a Simmons Center board member, decided it was time to do something about the old and deteriorating structure and equipment. The Simmons Center board announced plans to tear down the existing playground, and build a brand new playground structure along with other playground necessities at the Simmons Center’s 25th Anniversary Gala on January 8th, 2015.

“The goal was to rebuild the park with a structure that could stand the test of time as well as service all children,” says Outhier.

With the Duncan community on board with the idea of new equipment, the Simmons Center started the “Partners for the Park Campaign” to help with funding the project. After receiving over $42,500 from an anonymous donor, the center is hoping to raise the rest, over $40,000 with campaigns, events and donations from local supportive businesses and citizens. One of those donors being the Duncan Chisholm Trail Kiwanis Club, who made a $2,500 contribution to the project.

Noah’s Park and Playgrounds will start the full installation of the structure, independent playground equipment, swing, benches, and safety surfacing with borders, at the end of April 2015. Noah’s Park and Playgrounds sales representative, Sharla Wilkerson, and design team, helped the center create a custom play structure designed for children between the ages of 2 to 12 years old. The full ADA accessible playground structure is complete with seven large slides, five climbers, six activity panels, and a play cluster featuring floating rings, monkey bars, ring swing, rope bridge, two large net climbers and two stand-up-spinners.

Accompanying the playground structure, the Simmons Center board decided to add a five-bay swing with two ADA swings, two infant bucket seats, and six belt seats. The independent play items, also ready for installation, are the Petunia See-Saw Spring Toy, the ShamRocker Spring Toy, the Sweet Pea Spring Rider and the Playmotion Riders; Alpine, Wake and Surf. For safety and longevity purposes, the center purchased bonded rubber play mulch for safety surfacing, border timbers for surface containment and a solid rubber pad, as well as an ADA ramp for access to the ADA swing area. To complete the park, and accommodate the parents, the center included three benches and two regal style rectangle picnic tables.
