Playboy Gets High Marks from Young Naturists America for Being Supportive of Body Image and Acceptance
This past Friday, April 17th, Playboy's May issue hit news stands. In this issue, an article by journalist Molly Oswaks was of particular interest to many in the body image activist circles and well as nudists and naturists worldwide.
New York, NY, April 20, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Young Naturists America, a social acceptance and body image movement would like to credit to a very unlikely ally in the battle for body acceptance - Playboy!
While Playboy is not a body positive publication, Ms. Oswaks' article (titled "Barely Legal - A new generation of nudists is rethinking au naturel") gives an inside look at our body-positive movement.
"Playboy and its founder, Hugh Hefner, have been on the forefront of many social issues over the years. From birth control, to gay rights to women's issues, Playboy tends to get it right more often than not," said Jordan Blum, co-founder of Young Naturists America (or YNA for short). He goes on to say that "while we still have issues with the way Playboy sexualizes the female body, at least in this instance, we are more than happy to give them props for publishing this piece."
"These past couple of days have been quite fascinating," said Felicity Jones who is the other co-founder of YNA. "There are threads popping up all over our social networks from people all over the world who are asking where they can buy a copy. I myself could not track one down in my local neighborhood of Long Island City." Felicity goes on to say that, "I think it is a great sign that the naturist and nudist communities are so supportive and excited by the article. In all honesty, we were worried and were unsure what would get printed. But I have to admit that I am pleasantly surprised by the piece that Molly put forth. It was simply honest and non-judgmental which is more than we can say about some of the other major news agencies that have written about us."
YNA promotes non sexual social nudity as well as acceptance of all bodies. Both Jordan and Felicity said that they never thought they would live to see the day when they could say that Playboy has now joined the ranks of those who are helping us to impact the world in a positive manner. And that is a beautiful thing!
