Walter Rossie Jr., is an ex-homeless, freight train riding fugitive and Skid Row survivor. After Skid Row he chased his dreams and became a master salesman and trainer. Today, two decades later after much success in sales, he's an author of a highly rated book called "Escaping My Shadow," as well as a public speaker, and inspiration coach. Walter's recent projects include publishing his book, "Escaping My Shadow," which he's written with co-author David Reisman. His other project, which is his true passion, gives him the opportunity to give inspirational and motivational talks to people all over. To that end, he's recently created a core inspirational talk, also called "Escaping My Shadow."
In the year 2000, Walter was President of Visioneer’s Toastmasters Club #8839 in Duarte, California. That year, while still a fugitive from Texas, he was Club President and C.T.M. and led the club to its first President’s Distinguished Club Award, the highest honor from Toastmasters International, which put that club in the top two percent of clubs worldwide.
While improving communication and leadership skills, the club was dedicated to sharing it's vision with the children in the local area. Alongside the Immediate Past President, D.T.M. Henry Ochoa, Walter had the privilege of working with children from Valley View Elementary in Duarte. 100% of the children that participated in the speech program also participated in the talent show that year because of their new found confidence, and they did a great job.
Later, in 2006 Walter was the Keynote Inspirational Speaker for some of those very same students from Valley View at Groundhog Mentor Day at City Hall for Duarte High School, along with local business owners, the Mayor of Duarte, Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, and the organization America’s Promise led, by Retired General Colin L. Powell, USA.
Walter's speech was about Nelson Mandela’s fight against apartheid and his talk was goal setting, positive role models, and never giving up. That day Walter was deeply impacted by his own talk and realized that he had unfinished business at an educational leader training program that he had given up on five years prior. He then decided to leave a six figure income job to go back and complete the program he had essentially quit. This time he completed the program in three quarters of the time allotted, thanks to his coach who pushed him, and he finally became an effective introduction leader for a world-class educational organization.
Since then he's spoken at many high schools including special education departments, intervention classes, sales classes and at alternative education schools to students separated for infractions as well as non-profit organizations and meet up groups. In 2010 he left the automobile industry, was a master salesman and top producer for one of California’s top solar companies. For 2013 he was awarded highest honors as “Top Closer” for generating more revenue than any other sales representative at our company. In 2014 he started at another solar company and achieved being the companies top producer in sales also.
Walter has real experience and understands the pain of being a complete failure in life…But he also understands the joy of overcoming difficult challenges in life. He's put in the work to enjoy success, honor, and glory.
