Shoreline Physical Therapy Celebrates 30 Years of Healing
Shoreline PT celebrates three decades of compassionate caring for its community. With strong roots in East Lyme, Joanne Moore has assembled a team of specialists providing one on one service to children and adults. Physical therapy can be beneficial for a variety of chronic conditions, following surgery or injury, during chemotherapy treatments, as well as dealing with the challenges of diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
East Lyme, CT, December 09, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Shoreline Physical Therapy celebrates 30 years of practice with a variety of specialties and deep roots in the community. Founded by Joanne Zrenda Moore, PT, DHSc, OCS, in 1985, she was in the very first graduating class of East Lyme High School in 1969. Moore went on to study Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University and later earned her Doctor of Health Science degree with a focus on rheumatology from the University of St. Augustine. Her dissertation was on the role of physical therapy in the management of Lyme Disease, at a time when the disease was first being diagnosed.
“I found the core values of physical therapy; to respect the dignity of people and treat them with compassion, was consistent with my own core values,” says Moore about her reason for going into this field.
Ten years ago she lobbied for change is laws that enabled people to access physical therapy without a doctor’s referral, however most insurance companies still require a doctor’s order. She points out that even with the referral, people still have the right to choose where they go for physical therapy just as they can choose their own pharmacy.
The greatest hesitancy people have about PT, is that they are afraid it’s going to hurt according to Moore. “I rarely allow pain to happen during PT. My job is to alleviate pain, not cause it. I have a gentle approach that helps the body relax and heal better. Physical therapy is a profession dedicated to facilitating healing after injury, surgery or even while dealing with chemotherapy treatments. It can help manage chronic conditions as well as dysfunction from the challenges of everything from urinary incontinence to Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and back pain.
Moore has developed a team of specialists providing one on one, skilled and compassionate care to the whole community. She points out that she has no aides or assistants on staff and that the care patients receive is from a skilled, licensed physical or occupational therapist, at every visit. Each therapist sees only one patient at a time, providing personalized service where patient care comes first. Weekly in-service opportunities and continuing education for staff keep them up to date on the latest developments in their field.
“I believe every life deserves respect and dignity, and I have a tremendous affection for my home town. That’s why I wanted to practice here and be an integral part of my community, and it is a privilege to continue serving,” says Moore.
