InSpark Technologies Announces the Integration of Vigilantâ„¢ with Apple HealthKit to Enable Improved Diabetes Management
Charlottesville, VA, August 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Users of third party diabetes apps that connect with Apple HealthKit can now use Vigilant to be notified in advance of periods of risk.
InSpark Technologies, Inc announced that Vigilant, a smartphone-based companion to diabetes monitoring that can analyze blood glucose values and notify people in advance of periods of risk, has been integrated with the Apple HealthKit platform. The new functionality means Vigilant users can now easily send or receive glucose readings from any other health app that connects through Apple's HealthKit exchange. This includes Apple's Health dashboard app, which comes preloaded on all new iOS devices.
Vigilant is InSpark Technologies’ advanced pattern recognition technology solution that provides feedback about daily patterns of hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, glucose variability and test frequency, as well as patterns indicative of increased risk of severe hypoglycemia in the next 24 hours. Vigilant is intended for people with diabetes aged 13 and older who take multiple injections of insulin each day or who use insulin pumps. It is available in the App Store and Google Play™ for download to compatible smartphones. A dedicated web-based caregiver version (“Vigilant Caregiver”) is available for those who assist in the care of people with diabetes.
“This is an important step in allowing Vigilant to reach as many people in the diabetes community as possible,” explained Erik Otto, president and co-founder of InSpark Technologies. “With this new development, people who use blood glucose monitors that connect to a HealthKit integrated app can receive notifications about periods of risk from Vigilant. For example, users of the OneTouch Verio Flex meter can benefit from Vigilant pattern notifications when the One Touch Reveal® and Vigilant iOS apps are both integrated with HealthKit. Vigilant can also provide notifications for users of the Accu-Chek® Connect App, Glooko®, mySugr and more. This will substantially broaden the number of people that can benefit from Vigilant without any requirement for additional manual data entry.”
“InSpark Technologies has a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for diabetes advanced pattern management and risk identification that includes Vigilant Caregiver, a platform for clinicians and Vigilant PopHealth, for population health providers,” said Laurel Fuqua, Sr. VP of Clinical Affairs for InSpark Technologies. “This integration provides a turnkey solution for health systems, providers and insurers who have electronic health record systems that also integrate with HealthKit such as Cerner or Epic. Vigilant data and patient risk profiles will now be able to integrate easily allowing real time insights for managing risk and improving diabetes outcomes.”
About Diabetes and Hypoglycemia
Diabetes affects more than 21.9 million Americans. A dangerous and often frequent occurrence in diabetes management, low blood glucose or hypoglycemia can be one of the most frightening aspects of living with diabetes. If left untreated, it can cause loss of consciousness, seizures, coma, or even death. According to the American Diabetes Association, hypoglycemia accounts for more than 282,000 emergency room visits a year.
