Taking East Metro Atlanta on a Healthier Journey: Largest Health and Fitness Expo
Conyers, GA, September 06, 2016 --(PR.com)-- On January 28, 2017, Alcovy Media will host the first East Metro Atlanta Health and Fitness Expo in Rockdale County. The event will be held at the Georgia International Horse Park Exhibition Center located at 1996 Centennial Olympic Pkwy NE Conyers, GA 30013 and will begin at 10:00 am (www.EMetroHealth.com). The collaboration between About Magazine, eMetro Times and Alcovy Media will host and promote the family event.
Improving health and fitness has been a primary focus in Rockdale and surrounding counties when looking at long term growth and sustainability. Rockdale County, where the Expo will be held this year, has worked to improve their health and economic footprint for residents, earning the Bronze Level Green Community and Work Ready Community designations. Paulding County has been named one of the Entrepreneur Friendly counties by the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) and Newton County was recognized for focusing on offering healthier lunches to children.
The Expo will welcome over 3,000 attendees, over 60 vendors and sponsors to educate, promote and facilitate a healthier journey for East Metro Atlanta. This community encompasses over 20 counties in the state of Georgia. Healthier communities bring added value to the state which attracts more corporations, improves the stability of entrepreneurship, lowers unemployment rates and drives the overall economic surplus.
The Trust for America's Health organization reports that high rates of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity, drastically affects the level of productivity and economic ability of a community (TFHA, 2011). The American Diabetes Association reports that diagnosed diabetes costs communities over $170 billion in direct medical costs and $69 billion in loss of productivity. Workforce absenteeism accounts for $5 billion and, in addition, early mortality impacts the economy with a loss of revenue averaging $18.5 billion (ADA, 2012). The Health and Fitness Expo is positioned to address the needs of the residents in these counties by driving a healthier community.

Organizers of the event have announced that premier sponsors, Newton Homeopathic and LaVie Spa and Salon, have officially joined the movement for the 2017 Health and Fitness Expo along with a number of local businesses that have signed up to be vendors. County hospitals, Rockdale Medical Center and Piedmont Newton Hospital, have been invited to join the movement and the organizers are in the process of extending sponsorship invitations to larger hospital networks, corporations and other local hospital networks in the coming weeks.
Health and Fitness Expo attendees can expect to enjoy a day of music, activities, food, education, camaraderie and laughter. One of the highlights of the Expo is the "Frosty 5K" Charitable Race in support of Phoenix Pass. Runners, walkers and supporters alike are invited to participate in the Frosty 5K Race and qualify for the upcoming Atlanta Peachtree Road Race. Phoenix Pass is a non profit organization with a mission to serve the needs of homeless women and their children, while equipping them to regain self-sufficiency (www.PhoenixPass.org).
