Varkala is also known as Papanasham Beach. Papanasham means to get rid of sins and so it is believed that a dip in the holistic waters at the beach can act as a cleanser for the mind and soul. Varkala is the only place in south Kerala where the grand Arabian sea is followed by a robust cliff. Besides, it is one of the most peaceful and tranquil beaches in the country and offers the perfect opportunity for a healthy and soulful beginning to the New Years. The idyllic ambiance of Varkala also creates the quintessential environment that is a prerequisite to a yogic lifestyle.
