The event will kick off with the Frosty 5K Race. The goal is to bring valuable resources in the community under one roof for residents to interact with during the day. Local food vendors, insurance agents, fitness experts and others will be on site to offer residents options and information. National guidelines recommend that 20 minutes of aerobic physical activity per day will make a significant difference in the health of a person and a community. This difference will directly lower healthcare costs and expenditures (CDC, 2015). In addition, a healthier community will further benefit from lower health insurance premiums on average of 15%-20% less per month. In contrast, smokers typically pay 15% more for health insurance coverage per month than non-smokers; which is small compared to the 50% increase the law allows insurance providers to charge smokers and other unhealthy individuals.
