The Cardiovascular Disease Foundation Hosts Annual 5K Walk for Life® & Free Health Fair

Fifth Annual 5K Walk and Free Community Health Fair to help local residents learn how to prevent and recognize cardiovascular disease and its many risk factors. Fun for all ages.

Carlsbad, CA, January 24, 2008 --(PR.com)-- In support of American Heart Month, the Cardiovascular Disease Foundation will host its Annual 5K Walk For Life® & Free Community Health Fair, to help local residents learn how to prevent and recognize cardiovascular disease and its many risk factors, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 24th at Magee Park in Carlsbad, CA.

The 5K Walk entry fee for adults is $25. Children 12 and under walk free as do military, fire and police department personnel and their families. The entry form and online registration are available at www.cvdf.org. Walkers registering on-line may bring a friend for free. Day of walk registration will be from 8-9 a.m. An aerobic warm-up will begin at 8:30 a.m. Carlsbad Mayor Claude “Bud” Lewis will send walkers on their way at 9 a.m. The walk will start and finish at Magee Park with the course along Carlsbad’s scenic boardwalk. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome and teams of walkers are encouraged. Team photos and prizes will be awarded for Largest Team, Most Funds Raised, and Best Decorated Banner.

The Community Health Fair, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., is free for everyone to enjoy. It is a fun filled event offering over forty vendor booths providing samples of health related products and services. Free health screenings such as cholesterol & blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, and body fat evaluations will be given by the Cardiovascular Disease Foundation. There will also be an abundance of healthy food, live music, prizes, face painting, and entertainment.

San Diego’s own Clay Colton Band will perform live with light rock/blues music for fair goers. Other performers include: K2 kid band with guest appearance from Daniel Futcher, lead guitarist of Light of Doom from MSN TV’s The Next Great American Band; Varua Tahiti ‘e, an international touring Polynesian drum & dance group; Gymmny Kids gymnastic demos; Velocity Sports Performance training demos; Clown Ministries International face-painting, balloon animals, and magic tricks.

Magee Park is located at 258 Beech Ave. in Carlsbad at the corner of Carlsbad Village Boulevard and Beech Ave. There is ample free parking within walking distance. For more information call 760-730-1471.
