Anything L.A. Magazine SFV Bone Marrow Donor Drive for Adam Krief

Los Angeles resident, Adam Krief has blood cancer, a matching bone marrow transplant will save the life of the young father of three. None of the over 27 million registered bone marrow donors worldwide is a match for Adam. With time being of the essence, the SFV drive will enable more Angelenos to get tested.

Valley Glen, CA, October 15, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Anything L.A. Magazine – in partnership with Be The Match®, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP) - will hold SFV Bone Marrow Donor Drive For Adam Krief. The Bone Marrow Donor Drive will take place in a private residence at 6430 Varna Ave. in Valley Glen on Saturday, October 29th 2016 between 10 am and 3 pm.

Los Angeles resident, Adam Krief is 31. He is married and has three young children. He is a lifelong L.A. Lakers fan. Adam was diagnosed on July 1st of this year with a rare – and terminal – type of blood cancer (primary myelofibrosis).

He is being given chemotherapy not as a treatment, but to afford him time to find a matching donor. Adam is in need of a peripheral blood stem cell donation. (PBSC is a type of a non-surgical blood donation.) Out of the over 27 million people currently registered as bone marrow donors worldwide, none is a match for Adam. Thousands of people have already stepped up to help him, but so far no match was found.

There isn’t any one, universal cure for cancer. In the case of certain blood cancers however, a matching bone marrow transplant is the best and often only chance for a cure. The test for bone marrow donors is fast, simple and painless. It involves a few swabs with a Q-Tip. (Joining the national registry of donors is easy, too. Qualified donors age 18-44 simply fill out a consent form and complete a cheek swab.) The specific bone marrow donation Adam needs (PBSC: peripheral blood stem cell donation) is a little more than a blood donation. There is no surgery, anesthesia, pain or long recovery involved.

Adam Krief’s cause is supported by communities throughout the United States and internationally. Kim Kardashian asked her fans to get tested for a possible match for Adam Krief.

So far, a matching donor wasn’t found and Adam Krief’s time is running out. Anything L.A. Magazine SFV Bone Marrow Donor Drive will enable more potential bone marrow donors to get tested. For Adam Krief finding a matching donor is literally a matter of life and death.

According to BeTheMatch.org, blood cancer is the number two cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
