Wellness Center Branch YMCA Completes Expansion

Union, NJ, November 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- The Gateway Family YMCA – Wellness Center Branch announced an Open House to be held on Friday, November 10th in celebration of the completion of the recent branch expansion. Located at 1000 Galloping Hill Rd, Union the Wellness Center Branch will be open to the community with planned activities, facility tours, wellness information and child watch for those wishing to participate in programs during scheduled hours. The recently completed renovation included the creation of an additional group exercise studio on the main level for program space and a reconfigured main lobby area and entrance. The Wellness Center Branch specializes in wellness opportunities for ages 12 and over, including in their membership over 100 group exercise programs each week for all abilities.

The Wellness Center Branch opened in 2011 and is one of five branches that comprise The Gateway Family YMCA, serving Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County since 1900. Within the branch are five program studios, a dedicated cycling studio, kinesis room, two conference rooms, cardiovascular wellness center, circuit and free weight room. Dedicated to serving those who need a little more support, the Wellness Center Branch provides LiveSTRONG at the YMCA a supportive community program for cancer survivors, the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, Enhanced Fitness for Arthritis as well as comprehensive group exercise programs. Members have full use of The Gateway Family YMCA branches within Elizabeth, Union and Rahway, including the Five Points Branch located nearby with a pool, gymnasium and programs for all ages.

“We are excited by the opportunity for growth this expansion brings, in particular our focus on programs for those with chronic diseases and lower impact popular programs like Yoga and Tai Chi. The additional space will allow us to better serve the Union community and our members,” stated Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO.

The expansion project began in late August and was completed just this past week. “This expansion was a direct result of member and community focus group feedback. What we heard is that our members want more classes; that they love our staff and our existing programs. We’re excited to be able to continue to expand our portfolio of more than 100 group exercise programs each week, which we will do gradually over the next few weeks,” stated Colleen Clayton, Interim Branch Executive.

“Our focus is creating a supportive environment to serve those that need a little more assistance and guidance to improve their health and well-being. The Y specializes in services for those facing challenges from arthritis, diabetes, weight management, back issues and joint replacement,” added Paul Mickiewicz, Senior Director of Healthy Living.
