New Charitable Organization Puts an End to Awareness “Months”
Organization and Web site founded to help raise consistent and ongoing awareness for many worthwhile causes including cancer, diabetes, AIDS, and more.
Scottsdale, AZ, March 11, 2006 --(PR.com)-- As a grandson to a breast cancer survivor and leukemia victim, a son to a three-time breast cancer survivor, ovarian cancer survivor, and recent leukemia victim, and personally a Type I diabetic of 13 years, Ryan Gaspar, 24, has plenty of experience with devastating diseases in his relatively short lifetime.
Ryan has always wondered why destructive diseases such as cancer and AIDS only get 30-days of society’s attention per year with their respective awareness months. “Why can’t we keep these diseases and other worthwhile causes top-of-mind throughout the year to truly make an impact?” Ryan questions.
In March 2006, 365 Aware™ was founded and www.365AWARE.org was launched. The organization’s mission is “To enhance and extend the awareness and support that we as a society give to worthwhile causes,” and the mantra is “… Because a month is not enough.”
The mantra of 365 Aware is carried out and spread via the “Pass It On” ribbon campaign. Visitors to the site can participate in the campaign by purchasing packs of three embroidered, adhesive ribbons bearing the words “365 AWARE.” A donation is made to the charity of the visitor’s choosing upon checkout. Participants in the campaign are asked to display one of the ribbons and to pass the other two along to friends, family, co-workers, or complete strangers. “The goal of the ‘Pass It On’ ribbon campaign is to get one billion ribbons in circulation, and more importantly, to spread the message of 365 Aware,” says Ryan.
The Web site also includes “The Calculator,” a form that quantifies the number of people affected by certain diseases and issues within a lifetime by having the visitor enter their age; overviews of the many causes supported by 365 Aware and links to pertinent Web sites for each; and a “Share Your Story” section that allows visitors to share their personal stories and pictures.
“As we go through our day-to-day lives, it is important to remember that none of us is unaffected by these diseases and issues; whether it is us personally, members of our family, and/or our friends,” says Ryan, “I hope that someday soon we can remove a disease from the Web site because a cure has been found!”
