First Book-Metro Phoenix, Borders® and Waldenbooks® Stores Bring the Gift of New Books To Children in Need
First Book-Metro Phoenix was excited to grant $4,000 in Borders gift cards to local non-profits that directly serve children in need. This year First Book-Metro Phoenix had the privilege to distribute these gift cards to Motheread® Arizona, The Family School, Los Arcos United Methodist Church, Wesley Community Center, Mesa Early Learning and Lincoln Learning Center. This is the second consecutive year that Borders, Waldenbooks and First Book have joined together for a holiday fundraising drive.
Phoenix, AZ, May 15, 2008 --(PR.com)-- First Book-Metro Phoenix was excited to grant $4,000 in Borders gift cards to local non-profits that directly serve children in need. Over the holiday season customers in Borders and Waldenbooks stores were encouraged to donate $1, $3, $5 or more to First Book as they made their holiday purchases. One hundred percent of funds donated by Borders and Waldenbooks customers were converted to gift cards and distributed to local organizations affiliated with First Book to purchase books for the children they serve. This year First Book-Metro Phoenix had the privilege to distribute these gift cards to: Motheread® Arizona, The Family School, Los Arcos United Methodist Church, Wesley Community Center, Mesa Early Learning—Irving and Lincoln Learning Center. Comprised of volunteers from all sectors of the community, First Book-Metro Phoenix works to promote and facilitate the distribution of new books to literacy programs in the Metro Phoenix area and granted the funds raised in the 2007 Borders and Waldenbooks holiday giving campaign to local organizations. Since 2004, First Book-Metro Phoenix has distributed over 60,000 books to local programs in underserved communities including Sunnyslope Community Center, Assistance League of Phoenix, and Desert Mission.
