Hardyston, NJ, July 13, 2008 --(PR.com)-- TheFuMP.com in association with FIDIM Interactive, LLC and PartiallyClips.com is sponsoring a video contest for their most recently posted song. Users have been asked to create a fan video for Dead Again, a song written by Tom Smith and covered by Possible Oscar. The winner will receive a 4 GB SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 player preloaded with the entire discographies of Tom Smith, Possible Oscar, Rob Balder, and the great Luke Ski, plus the FuMP compilation albums volumes 1 through 9.
Dead Again was recorded by Possible Oscar for the Tom Smith fundraiser album. Smith, a full time independent musician, injured himself while taking the stage at a show in June. Rob Balder, a comedy musician and web comics author, put together the fundraiser album and solicited songs from the comedy and filk communities. Filk is music that is performed at science fiction conventions. It is usually sci-fi related, often funny, sometimes poignant, and usually sung in groups known as "filk circles." Tom Smith has a reputation as "the worlds fastest filker" because he is known for writing and recording songs very quickly. Rob Balder put together "the world's fastest tribute album" for the fundraiser.
"It really says something about this community when one of our own gets injured and we can come together to put out a compilation album like this, " says Rob Balder. "I put out the call to the musicians to do covers of Tom Smith songs and said you have six days. We got 38 songs."
The album, Mr. Smith Goes To The Hospital, is available for download with any donation at www.partiallyclips.com/tomsmith. All of the proceeds, minus PayPal's fees, will go directly to Tom Smith to help him pay for his medical bills and living expenses.
To help bring more attention to the fundraiser, Balder approached The FuMP about having a video contest. The FuMP, or The Funny Music Project, posts two comedy songs each week as a free download under a Creative Commons license. Balder is a member of The FuMP, as are Tom Smith and Possible Oscar. Other members of The FuMP, including Sudden Death, the great Luke Ski, and Worm Quartet, also contributed songs to the fundraiser album and were excited about the idea of a video contest.
Fan-created videos for Dead Again will be posted on YouTube and aggregated on a contest page at TheFuMP.com. Submissions will be accepted through August. In September, the organizers of The FuMP will each vote for their three favorite videos. The video with the most votes will be the winner. The creator of that video will receive the MP3 player fully loaded with funny music. Two runners up will also receive an item of their choice from The FuMP's store.
For full contest rules and regulations or to submit a video visit www.TheFump.com.
