Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco

Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco™: Fact Sheet

• Since 1989, the Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco has provided a haven of comfort and hope for seriously ill children and their families.

• The House’s ten rooms have provided over 57,000 nights’ housing to more than 3,000 families.

• Families come to RMHSF from 52 California counties, 42 states, and 18 countries.
Nearly 50% of our guests are from underserved populations.

• 56% of patients whose families are served have not even reached their 1st birthday.

• Diagnoses include, but are not limited to, cardiac conditions, premature birth, liver or kidney transplants, neurological diseases, gastro-intestinal conditions, cancer, and fetal complications.

• Hospital stays are often extended and Ronald McDonald House helps to mitigate the impact by replicating the home environment. 20% of families stay 30 days or longer; 38% are at the house longer than two weeks.

• While families are asked to contribute $10 per night, no family is turned away due to an inability to pay.

• Families served by the House include parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

• RMHSF is located adjacent to internationally-recognized UCSF Children’s Hospital. We also serve California Pacific Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, St. Mary’s and UCSF’s Mount Zion Center.

• Ronald McDonald House is a completely independent, 501(c) (3) nonprofit agency. Almost 85% of our operating costs are raised from private foundations, corporations and individuals.

• The operating budget for RMH-SF is approximately $500,000.

• Ronald McDonald House of San Francisco has 15 very committed board members who actively participate in all aspects of the house.

• RMH-SF has three (3) full time staff members, three (3) relief workers and many volunteers, all of whom ensure that the house is a “home away from home” for our families.
