A study, published in the December 2009 issue of Nature Cell Biology, identified amphiregulin (AREG) as the key effector molecule in YAP-mediated proliferation of breast epithelial cells. Since AREG is a a diffusible, secreted factor, it represents a new potential drug target for cancer.
